Abortion In Ireland....Step One: Set Up A Committee

Remember I said that abortion is on its way into Ireland? Well, the Minister for Health is setting up an expert committee to study the recent ruling by the European Court of Human Rights (see article here). Is this the first step?

Time for the Church to get going on this.  It is also time for the Church to start challenging the slant journalists are putting on the abuse crisis.  The six reports issued by the NBSCCC were, on the whole, positive, but Patsy McGarry of The Irish Times and his cohorts in the media were slithering all over the place in their attempts to inflict maximum damage on the Church, and on Bishop Philip Boyce of Raphoe in particular.  As Christopher McCamley points out, they presume that all accusations are true and if a priest is not found guilty in court of abuse, then he got away with it.

Well, so much for Patsy McGarry's fervent insistence last week that there isn't an anti-Catholic bias in the media - yesterday's travesty in the media puts the lie to that.  Only a fool would believe the media in Ireland is fair to the Catholic Church, and it is time faithful Catholics stopped acting like fools. Time to learn something from Fr Kevin Reynolds.

  1. Yes, Fr John, It IS time Catholics, and all who care about justice, freedom of religion, and objective truth, stood up and cried " No more!". We have an opportunity to do this at the rally to protest against the treatment of the Catholic Church (such as the closure of the embassy), and other injustices by the State, outside Leinster House, Kildare St, 2 to 4 pm, next Thursday, 8 December. Could all priests please announce at Masses this weekend; could people with blogs, facebook pages, etc., please put up a notice, and help spread the word and encourage people to attend? Let's show that we are not just armchair protesters. Thank you.

  3. Lynda I'd love to help out, is there a website or facebook page with more information on the organisers and who will be attending so I can pass on to friends and family?
Do you have any more info on where to meet up before the protest or shall we just show up on the day?

    Thanks so much!!
