Soon after their elevation, the Cardinals go to "take possession" of their churches, and I believe Mass is part of that. I would presume that, while they do not really have a role in running the churches - the title is purely honorary, they do, or should have some sort of a relationship with the parish priest, clergy and parishioners. The history of the titles: Cardinals were originally the parish priests of Rome who assisted their Bishop (the Pope) and the churches were parish churches. As the title and role of Cardinal developed, those appointed to the Sacred College were consigned an honorary parish within the diocese of Rome and as Cardinals they assumed the title of that parish - the titular. Hope that helps.Father Directorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17910574198138234820noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-496103327369055047.post-169634502967706472014-02-24T12:27:56.957+00:002014-02-24T12:27:56.957+00:00Father,do you know if the irish cardinals have eve...Father,do you know if the irish cardinals have ever said mass at those churchs and are they recognised locally and also what was the histroy of been given tge titles hope that makes sense<br />petenoreply@blogger.com
